Tony’s journey with CLA is nothing short of extraordinary. In 1974, before CLA was even incorporated as its own nonprofit, Tony became part of what was then the Family Living Project — Colorado’s very first host home program. Over the next five decades, he has not only witnessed the growth and evolution of CLA but has also become a living testament to the power of community, stability, and belonging.

“Tony has brought such joy to our family. We have learned so much from him. Tony is so kind,  patient and positive, even when he is facing challenges. Over the years CLA has been instrumental in providing Tony with opportunities to grow and excellent staff that have helped facilitate such a positive outcome for him. We could not have done it without them.” — Tony’s sister, Linelle Z.

Today, Tony continues to thrive in his host home, embraced as family and supported by people who know him best. He has a zest for life and a love of travel that has taken him to new places and adventures over the years. Whether he’s exploring a new destination or sharing stories from past trips, Tony brings curiosity and joy wherever he goes. His laughter fills the room at CLA gatherings, and his presence is a source of inspiration to friends, staff, and providers alike.

At the 2024 Annual Awards Ceremony, Tony received special recognition for his 50 years with CLA — the longest tenure in our organization’s history. The celebration honored not just Tony’s milestone, but the relationships, consistency, and trust that made it possible.

Tony’s story reflects the very heart of CLA’s mission: that with the right supports, people with intellectual and developmental disabilities can live full, meaningful lives in the community they call home. His 50 years with us are more than a number — they are a legacy of love, resilience, and the enduring promise that every person deserves dignity, joy, and inclusion for a lifetime.
