You care every day. Now be supported as a Family Caregiver.

The Family Caregiver option allows a parent or relative to officially become the paid caregiver for their adult child with I/DD. Instead of outside providers delivering all care, families can take on the role — with training, payroll support, and oversight from CLA.

Why Families Choose the Family Caregiver Option:
  • Consistency & Comfort – Care remains in the home with the people who know the individual best.
  • Financial Support – Families receive monthly compensation for the care they are already providing.
  • Training & Guidance – CLA ensures family caregivers have the knowledge, resources, and backup support they need.
  • Community Connection – Families remain connected to CLA’s broader services, including the CLASS day program, respite opportunities, and community events.

How It’s Funded
The Family Caregiver option is funded through Colorado Medicaid waivers. Families do not pay out of pocket. Compensation is based on the individual’s Supports Intensity Scale (SIS) level and the number of hours approved by Medicaid.

Payments at a glance
  • Compensation based on assessed needs (SIS level) and county of residence.
  • Some agencies may offer sign-on bonuses. Our commitment is to long-term stability — which is why we pay among the highest and fairest rates, ensuring providers feel supported for the journey, not just the start.
  • Four–seven paid respite days per year (based on SIS level) so you can rest and recharge.

Who Is Eligible?
  • The individual receiving services must be 18 years or older.
  • They must qualify for one of Colorado’s Medicaid waivers (typically the DD, SLS or CHRP waiver).
  • A parent or relative may apply to become the paid caregiver, with CLA providing oversight and support.
